Recliner in nature weekend getaway

In our busy city lives we can easily forget the relaxing power of the wonders of nature.  With the Sepang Mangroves only 1 hour away from Kuala Lumpur, it is easier than ever to reconnect with nature.  Taking a kayaking tour through the Mangroves of Sepang is a great way to combine exercise and relaxation in nature.  Better still you could even take a whole weekend and stay at our accommodation and take a retreat in Malaysia.

The smell of the mangroves, the sounds of birds, the calls of monkeys and the golden glow of a sunset are all great for our senses.  On a kayak tour, you might see the following wildlife in the Sepang mangrove.  This is just a small snippet of the 100s of animals you can find within a mangrove, come on a tour to find out more.

Retreat in Malaysia - monitor lizards

Monitor Lizards

Monitor lizards have had a home in mangroves almost as long as the mangroves themselves.  Their powerful necks and tails make them distinctive in the region and well-suited to hunt and forage for food.

Retreat in Malaysia - Kingfisher

Kingfisher

The colourful Kingfisher is likely to be found perching on a branch within the mangroves waiting for its favourite prey, small crabs and shrimps.  They can also be found around the coastlines of Malaysia.

Retreat in Malaysia - Mudskipper

Mudskippers

At low tide, you will see them hopping along the mud defending the territory.  Often you will see them interacting with one another where to defend their territory or courting a female.  You might also get to see their burrows which they protect with the eggs inside.

Retreat in Malaysia - Monkeys can be see from the accommodation

Monkeys

The chatter and calls of monkeys around the mangroves are a common sound and even more interesting to watch them play and jump through the trees.  At sunset, they often come down onto the mud flats to dig and find food.

Retreat in Malaysia - Otters

Smooth Otter

Yes, we have otters here in Sepang and if you are really lucky you might even get to see them from our accommodation at Grovey House.  When they come, it will often be an hour or two before sunset.  This picture was taken on the rainbow jetty, which we will pass on the kayaking tour
